This weekend, Nick and I hosted his dad and his grandparents here in Virginia Beach, which was (is – they’re leaving tomorrow!) always a treat. We had a lot of fun but one of the goals for their time here was venturing out onto the flight line and getting some shots of Nick and his dad in an attempt to recreate a photo that they had taken years ago.
So, if you haven’t already seen it…
Clearly, the photo on the left is the older one, taken some time in 1989. Yes, kids, the 1980s. Hard to believe, I know.
Nick’s dad was a Naval Flight Officer during the era of the F-14, which has now been replaced by the plane that Nick flies, the F/A-18.
It was such a fun time, trying to get the photos to look as similarly as possible, and also to note the quite obvious differences (Nick’s size and the different plane, being the most noteworthy. It’s just too bad his dad still can’t hold him).
In addition to that little photo shoot, of course the family indulged me in some additional picture-taking. I couldn’t resist.
Great day with great people. I’m lucky to have such a wonderful family (and to have married into one).
In other news, lately I feel like my crazy obsession with photography has grown – I blame it on the beautiful weather and all that natural light – but sadly my only way of taking photos is with my trusty smart phone. Even my little digital camera has rejected me – I don’t know why. Not to say that I don’t love my phone, but I’m just dying for a really nice camera. If anyone has any suggestions on which camera to buy for a total novice and any suggestions on where to get a reasonably priced one, I’m all ears.
On that note, here are some more photos that I took this past week. I love the beach, and I love my baby.
Thanks for reading (looking).
And finally, sending lots of prayers to the runners and families in Boston. For their sake, spread a little more love than usual to the people around you.
